The mica enclosed inside the translucent pen shaft shines elegantly in the Matsubokkuri’s Mica (雲母) series of glass dip pens. 18K gold powder is mixed with gold mica and sealed within.
The creator of Glass Studio Matsubokkuri (ガラス工房まつぼっくり), Kiyoshi Matsumura (松村潔), became an independent artist of oxygen burner work + borosilicate glass in 1995 after about 10 years of training as a physics and chemistry glass craftsman. Since then, he has been creating a variety of works (products) ranging from glass rings, pendants, wine glasses and other vessels. Then, making use of all his know-how and technical experience in this field, he started making glass pens around 2007. Since that time, he has been consistent in his commitment to original craftsmanship in all aspects of his work. This applies not only to glass pens, but also to all his other glass works.
Matsubokkuri glass pens are made of borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass has a high working temperature, so it is processed using an oxygen burner with a flame of about 2,000℃. What is burner work? Glass pens other than the Triangle and Crystal series use hollow glass tubes, so their lightness is also a major feature which reduces fatigue when writing.
